There is so much to see and do for everyone, close by and a bit further afield.

Here are some of the most popular things that our visitors told us they enjoyed doing whilst staying at our cottages (all are within easy reach):

Crabbing at Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Dartmouth – it’s cheap, easy and great fun for all!

A few minutes from the cottages, taking the lovely riverside walk along the disused railway line beside the Avon Valley – enjoying a cream tea at Avon Mill before walking back. This is always a particular favourite.

Enjoying days on the super beaches at Bantham (great for sand castles and kite flying), Blackpool Sands (not fine sand but so picturesque and a firm family favourite), Bigbury (lots of good sand and the famous sea-tractor ride over to the island), and the sheltered sandy bays around the Salcombe Estuary (with their constant, colourful, boating activity).

Visiting the childrens’ adventure park at Woodlands – plenty to do in all weathers; rides and huge indoor play areas.

Taking a journey on the steam railways from Kingswear (Dartmouth) to Paignton along the River Dart, or on the Dart Valley Railway from Totnes to Buckfastleigh, and enjoying the glorious riverside scenery.

Cruising the Salcombe estuary between Kingsbridge and Salcombe on the ‘Rivermaid’, or hiring a motor boat from Salcombe and explore the estuary and its quiet creeks. Taking a cruise or hiring a boat at Dartmouth to visit Dittisham and Greenway (Agatha Christie's home).

Visiting National Trust properties at Coleton Fishacre, near Kingswear (art deco home of the D'Oyley Carte family, with glorious coastal gardens), and Overbecks/Sharpitor in Salcombe (amazing views along the Salcombe estuary and out to sea).

Eating at the many good local pubs and restaurants – Dusters (Salcombe) and John Burton-Race’s New Angel (Dartmouth) being particularly favoured, as well as excellent, locally caught fresh fish at the Start Bay Inn (Torcross), the Cricket Inn (Beesands), the Winking Prawn restaurant's summer barbeque beside the beach (North Sands, Salcombe), and the famous Oyster Shack restaurants (Bigbury and Salcombe).

Or if you just want to be lazy ...

Staying in, relaxing around the cottages’ gardens and enjoying the scenery and birds, with a glass of wine and a game of petanque.
